THE GAME is BACK!!

If anyone knows this FABULOUS BROWN GIRL, then you know I love love love the television show 'THE GAME"! And I know many of you all love it too! In May 2009, the CW took the show off of its lineup because "it no longer fit in" ... Yea,yea yea.. we are not dumb, we know EXACTLY what that meant! So many loyal fans petitioned long and hard to bring it back because we felt like it was the ONLY decent black show on the air. Fans wanted to bring it back on a network that appreciates it target audience.. so naturally the top contender was BET.

Finally after a year long battle of negotiations, BET Network finally announced that are bringing the beloved show back with original episodes appearing during the final quarter of 2010! Here is the official press release distributed by BET.

Now me and BET have a love/hate relationship.. and even though this network wasn't my first choice for bringing my fav show back on the scene (HBO or Showtime would have been perfect in my opinion). But I am proud that they are finally listening to what their viewers want to see.. Hopefully they [BET] don't mess it up! If they do, I am officially going to be done with them because they are already hanging on by a thread..

Countdown to the new THE GAME episodes start..... NOW! Make sure you continue to look out for updates

Let's be honest. There is something about black women coming together in beautiful and harmonious pretenses that is so inspiring and humbling. Last week, Essence Magazine, a publication and brand that I totally respect hosted the Black Women Hollywood Luncheon in LA that honored several women in the entertainment industry who have contributed to the positive imagery of black women over all.

Now you know, here at Fabulous Brown Girl, that is are overall mission and passion and whenever we see this idea being carried out and positive role models acknowledge for their inspiration we can't help but to capture it in a post.

WE ARE the WORLD 25

First off, I apologize for the lapse of posts. I am definitely sure you all can relate to a time when life starts to get real and everything comes at you at the same time. It is not a bad thing, but Life is starting to make the moves that I have been waiting for and I can barely keep up, so please forgive me if I do not post as frequently as I normally do. But don't worry! I am committed to this blog and can't stay away from you Fabulous Brown Girls for too long!!! You ladies are always on my mind!

Over the weekend, the video and release for the "WE ARE THE WORLD 25" was released. Even though critics are giving the remake mixed reviews. I found it to be refreshing to see more artists than I could keep up with on this song. It warmed my heart just hearing the song because it is one of my favorites, but seeing everyone from Jennifer Hudson, to PINK, and even Tony Bennett contribute was awesome!

If you didn't get a chance to see the video, please check it out below. I think the KING of POP would be PROUD!!

BONUS TREAT!! CLICK HERE to download Teedra Moses' mixtape. She is one of our favorite FABULOUS BORWN GIRLS. Her music and style is right up our alley. PLUS the mixtape is free. Put on your ipod and jam away.

2010 "We Are the World" Remake for Haiti

Very recently, the world famous song for unity and aid, "We Are The World" was remade 25 years later to raise for the tragedy that occurred in Haiti over two weeks ago. I would be lying if I said this wasn't isn't extremely ironic that that the 25th anniversary is marked with the earthquake.

Even though it was missing some of the most popular celebrities like Beyonce', Lady Gaga, and a host of other widely popular celebs, I am still amazed and proud at how serious celebrities are taking what happened in Haiti. The philanthropy and the love they are showing is very inspiring.

Check out a few picture of some of the many celebrities giving the gift of their voice and recording the remake of that special song. I am really anticipating to hear the new version because the song still gives me chills whenever I hear it.

BET Honors: This is What Extraordinary Looks Like

So last night BET outdid themselves with this year's broadcast of their 3rd annual BET Honors which took place in Washington, DC. The BET Honors recognized the achievements of fellow Howard Bison, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Queen Latifah, Dr. Keith Black, Dr. Ruth J. Simmons, and Whitney Houston.

Hosted by FBG Gabriel Union, several artists performed to honor them musically with uplifting songs to show them their love and appreciation.

My favorite tributes were Diddy's with Mary J Blige showing love to her "big brother" with a lot of hits they made together; as well as, Kim Burrell and Jennifer Hudson's tribute to Whitney Houston. Those ladies sang their hearts out to Whitney who was not afraid to "show" her gratitude for them while they performed. I didn't mind Whitney's antics because she made it clear, its better to be judged by your triumphs than by your flaws... Only if everyone thought like that!

Check out the tear jerking tribute Kim Burrell performed with her rendition of "I Believe in You and Me". This rendition encompasses how Fabulous Brown Girls everywhere should feel about one another. Thank You Kim and Whitney for that moment and thank you BET. We needed that.

The State of the Union Address and Why I'm Pissed!

What did you all think of the State of the Union Address last night? In my opinion President Obama did a FABULOUS job tackling the issues of employment, health care, banks, energy, education, the military and a host of other topics that Americans deal with on a daily basis! Here are just a few of the great points made by President Obama.

It was very apparent that President Obama wants jobs for Americans and wants those jobs now.
"Jobs must be our number one focus in 2010, and that is why I am calling for a new jobs bill tonight."

On the topic of those big banks that were bailed out last year, President made a good point.
"I know Wall Street isn’t keen on this idea, but if these firms can afford to hand out big bonuses again, they can afford a modest fee to pay back the taxpayers who rescued them in their time of need."

On the topic of health care, President Obama made a heartfelt statement.
"Here’s what I ask of Congress, though: Do not walk away from reform. Not now. Not when we are so close. Let us find a way to come together and finish the job for the American people."
If you missed the speech last night or want to concentrate on a particular part of his speech Check out the video to view the entire State of the Union Address.

The only thing that bothered me about last night was the post comments Chris Matthews made concerning President Obama and him seeming to forget that he was black as if it were a good thing. Please WATCH THIS and let me know if I am tripping!

I am seriously fed up with these ignorant racial slips that these white politicians and political pundits are making concerning President Obama.

I mean why did he have to forget he was black in order for him to be impressed with his speech? Why is being black so strongly correlated as a bad thing? It makes me so angry that no matter what we do or where we go..we are not accepted for who we are..

Dr. Martin Luther King died for this very reason. For God sakes, we just celebrated this man last week and "his dream" of us not being judged by the color of our skin but by the content of our character still has yet to come to fruition to this very day!!!

Notice Anything New?! 2010 is our BREAKTHOUGH year!

Happy New Year!!!

Wow ! 2009 was a great year! It was the year Fabulous Brown Girl came to me as an idea in the middle of the night and became a reality. I had several AHA moments as many scholarly folks would like to call it in 2009 which I am grateful for and it will only keep growing from here. It was a year of growth, change, and humility for me and 2010 will be the year where my thoughts and ideas actualize and become reality! 2010 will be in one simple word a.. BREAKTHROUGH!

With that we decided to change our look a bit! Do you like?! I hope you do, because this new format will be around for a while. Evolution is very necessary and is a great thing to realize and be a part of!

Fabulous Brown Girl will continue to evolve into greatness and I can't wait to see where this journey of female empowerment, inspiration, community involvement, and social sophistication takes us!

I have noticed that many of my young professional peers have a great anticipation about 2010! I think we for the most part we are growing into our own and I am happy and extremely proud to see these changes of mind frame coming about?

So to all my Fabulous Brown Girls, how did you bring in the New Year and what are you looking forward to doing differently in 2010?
